The climate of the Peruvian highlands is divided into two seasons, the rainy season and dry season. During the rainy season the sky is cloudy and the fog covers the horizon, the road to The Rainbow Mountain is wet, slippery and there is a lot of mud, this makes it difficult to walk.

The rainy season starts from the third week of October until the first or second week of April, the rains are mild at the beginning, but they increase until March.

The best season and recommended to visit Vinicunca is the dry season, April (second week) - October (third week).

We will depart from Cusco between 04:30am and 05:00am to go to Cusipata town, After 01h45min by bus, we will arrive to Cusipata Town where we will have a noutritious breakfast, then we continue to go to Chillihuani community, In that Community we can rent a horse to go easily to the rainbow mountain, Also from that place we start to walk during 01h10min (06km).

When we'll arrive to the top of the rainbow mountain, we can take beautiful pictures and we'll have enough time to enjoy that amazing place, we can stay over the mountain during 45min approx. Our tour guide will explain more and give you more details about this natural mountain, Then we will go down by the same way during (01hour). In chillihuani our bus will wait for us to continue our tour, After 01 hour more by bus, we will have a buffet lunch, finally we will arrive to Cusco at 17:00pm, the last stop will be one block near to the main square (Regocijos Square).

Around 1000 hours, we will be arriving at the Seven Colors Mountain (5200 meters above sea level). From here you can appreciate the majestic colorful mountains and the magnificent Andean glaciers.

Remember that the mountain of Seven Colors is actually a chain of Mountains and to appreciate all of them you just need to walk to the other end, you will find a variety of colorful mountains close to there.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The Rainbow Mountain of Vinicunca is located at 5,200 meters above sea level. Traveling to this place should not be taken lightly. We recommend acclimating 2 days before the tour, drink plenty of fluids and rest a lot. There are pills for altitude sickness, but Coca te is much better.

If you’re not completely well to walk, remember that you can rent horses at the access point.

But remember, you can reserve additional services for this tour at the time of filling out our reservation form, for example: horses, trekking poles, etc. You can book these services even one day before your trip.

• Pack Some Snacks

  Take with you some high-energy snacks to help you up The Rainbow Mountain. There are many stores around Cusco to stock up.

• Acclimatize first

  It is probable that you have come to Cusco to visit Machu Picchu, however, we recommend our passengers to visit the Rainbow Mountain after the tour to Machu Picchu, this will give you time to adapt to the altitude.

• The Coca tea is your friend

  Another way to avoid altitude sickness is drinking the Inca remedy, Coca Tea. In Cusco, Stores sell various products made of Coca, such as sweets and cookies. Stock Up

• Wear Hiking Boots

  It is advisable to use trekking boots to tackle the Rainbow Mountain, wear shoes with good traction and have ankle support.

• Use Sunscreen

  The sun at this altitude is intense, even if it is cloudy. Wear a hat, sunglasses, lip balm and sunscreen to protect your skin.
