Cathedral
The Cathedral of Cusco was built more than 550 years ago, stones and foundations of an Inca palace were used for its construction. Although its structure is impressive, the greatest treasure lies within it, more than 300 paintings of the old Cusco school, ornaments in silver and carved wood (gold leaf).
Qoricancha
Today is the convent of Santo Domingo. The Qoricancha was the most important temple of the Inca Empire, it was the temple destined to the adoration of the Sun God, inside it was a gigantic golden disc that represented the sun. Also, inside the temple were gods and deities of conquered cultures who were taken in a certain way as prisoners and thus avoid any revolution of these cultures. Currently, the convent of Santo Domingo conserves in its facade and interior Inca and colonial structures.
Sacsayhuaman
The archaeological park of Sacsayhuaman is an impressive and enigmatic place. The gigantic stones are arranged in a perfect and organized position, some of them weigh almost 200 tons, their origin and how they were transported to this place are a controversy to the present. Years ago, in 2005, a writing was found, Jiahu, engraved on turtle shells with a date of 30,000 thousand years.
Qenqo
Qenqo means Labyrinth in English. This Ceremonial temple was very important for the Incas, in its interior there are crooked channels in the form of labyrinths, there is a hypothesis that these channels were poured from holy water, chicha (corn beer) and blood. Qenqo was a place where animals were sacrificed and even people in rituals of death offered to the Gods, it is a gigantic monolith, there are tunnels and carved chambers inside, they are an amazing Inca architectural work, it is located on the side of a mountain close to the park of Sacsayhuaman.
Puka Pukara
It means Red Fortress, it comes from the red color impregnated in its construction. This place was a watch post in the Inca period and was used to control the access to Cusco of the existing tribes in the Amazons. Puka Pukara doesn’t have the same splendor as the archaeological centers close to it, it has little attraction for tourists, however, combining the tour with the archaeological site of Tambomachay is worth it.
Tambomachay
Means Place of Rest in English. It is believed that this place was a temple destined for the rest of the Inca and water cult. The water comes from aqueducts and underground channels created by the Incas, a splendid engineering work both inside and outside, until now, the origin of the water is not known, whose quantity is constant throughout the year. Other historians believe that Tambomachay was a military post that protected the entrance to Cusco of the Amazonian tribes.
Our tour ends in Regocijo Square, downtown.
