Transportation in Cusco
To move within the city of Cusco public transport is a good option, there are buses and minibuses with a fixed route, the rates are very cheap.
If you are going to take a taxi, reach an agreement on the fare before boarding the taxi.
To visit Machu Picchu there are two options, by train and bus. You can visit Machu Picchu on your own however we recommend hiring a travel agency certified by the Ministry.
If you don’t have much time to visit Peru, the best way is to travel by plane. The Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima is the main hub for connections of local flights, from Lima to Cusco there are 1,165 kilometers (724 miles), the air travel takes about 1 hour and by land 20 hours. The Velasco Astete airport in Cusco received more than 3 million foreign tourists in 2016.
