Where is the Humantay Lagoon located?

The Humantay lake is named after the snow-covered Mountain of the same name, is located northwest of the city of Cusco, in the town of Soraypampa, district of Mollepata, province of Anta and department of Cusco, Peru.

Where is the Condor Canyon located?

The Condor Canyon is located northwest of the City of Cusco in the community of Chonta, district of Limatambo, province of Anta, department of Cusco. Chonta community is 3 hours away by car and the Condor viewpoint is a 90-minute walk away. This place is located between the high mountains of the Andes and the humid and warm valley of Apurimac.

WEATHER

To visit any natural attraction in Cusco it is advisable to do it in the dry season, however, there are many places like the Condor canyon that can be visited in the rainy season, but must do so with clothing and accessories recommended for a walk in the mountains and which demands a medium physical level. The residents of the Chonta community offer horse rentals for tourists.

Cusco - Humantay Lagoon

We will be at your hotel between 0430 hours and 0500 hours. It will depend on the location of your hotel. We recommend sleeping early.

Our first destination is Mollepata, here we will have the opportunity to stretch the muscles and have breakfast, after that, we board the bus and after 90 minutes arrive to Soraypampa, from this place we start hiking towards the Humantay Lagoon, approximately 90 minutes.

Our guided tour in the Humantay Lagoon lasts around 40 minutes.

Humantay is a snowy mountain located at 5835 meters above sea level. Just at the foot of this mountain there’s a beautiful glacier lake called Humantay, it is a tourist point for hikers who visit Machu Picchu and the magnificent Salkantay.

After visiting the Lake Humantay, we return to Soraypampa, our personnel will be waiting for us with a delicious lunch, but beforehand we will take a break and relax.

Humantay Lagoon - Condor Canyon - Cusco

After lunch and a short break, we board the bus, this time we’ll go to the control point of Chonta, around 1400 hours. The hiking to the Condor viewpoint in Chonta begins around 1420 hours and lasts approximately 50 minutes. The Condor viewpoint is located at 3,800 masl.

The guided tour lasts about 50 minutes.

The viewpoint of the Condor is located in the Apurimac River canyon in the Community of Chonta, it belongs to the district of Limatambo. This place is excellent for the observation of the Andean Condor and is the habitat of many species of birds.

Formerly, in the Inca era, Condor was considered a sacred bird, It was considered as a messenger of the Andean spiritual world.

After the guided tour, we return to the entry point in Chonta and then board our bus, arriving in the city of Cusco around 7:30 p.m.

Our tour ends in Regocijo Square, downtown.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Remember to acclimatise a couple of days at least before any tour, remember to drink and rest a lot. There are pills for altitude sickness, however, coca tea is excellent.

Descend to Soraypampa can be heavy, so renting trekking sticks would be a good investment.

Remember to drink coca tea when possible.

  • Pack Some Snacks

    Take with you some high-energy snacks. There are many stores around Cusco to stock up.

  • Acclimatize first

    It is probable that you have come to Cusco to visit Machu Picchu, however, we recommend our passengers to visit the Humantay Lagoon after the tour to Machu Picchu, this will give you time to adapt to the altitude.

  • The Coca tea is your friend

    Another way to avoid altitude sickness is drinking the Inca remedy, Coca Tea. In Cusco, Stores sell various products made of Coca, such as sweets and cookies. Stock Up

  • Wear Hiking Boots

    It is advisable to use trekking boots, wear shoes with good traction and have ankle support.

  • Use Sunscreen

    The sun at this altitude is intense, even if it is cloudy. Wear a hat, sunglasses, lip balm and sunscreen to protect your skin.
