Starting June 1, 2024, the Ministry of Culture has introduced three additional circuits and ten routes for exploring the Inka City of Machu Picchu.

This conservation and management initiative controls the flow of visitors in authorized areas, reduces potential damage, and ensures a high-quality experience for every traveler.

General Recommendations for Your Machu Picchu Visit

  • Documents and Tickets: Make sure to carry your original passport or ID, the same one used to purchase your Machu Picchu ticket. If you bought a student ticket, present your valid student ID.

  • Minors: Children must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

  • Printed Ticket: It’s recommended to have a printed copy of your Machu Picchu ticket to avoid any last-minute issues.

  • Punctuality: Adhere to the entry time indicated on your ticket to optimize your visit.

  • One-Way Route: The route within Machu Picchu is unidirectional, so you won’t be able to go back once you move forward.

  • Popular Attractions: Sites like Huayna Picchu or the Great Cave have limited availability; reserve them months in advance to secure your spot.

Recommendations for Climbing Huayna Picchu

  • Age and Health: Entry is recommended only for people over 12 and over. It’s not advisable for individuals with heart conditions, asthma, or vertigo.

  • Physical Preparation: If you’re not used to regular exercise, dedicate a few weeks to cardiovascular training beforehand.

  • Hiking Duration: Reaching the summit usually takes about 1 hour, with the entire round trip lasting between 3 and 4 hours.

  • Limited Stay: The maximum time allowed on Huayna Picchu is 6 hours, so plan your visit carefully.
